Whitireia NZ Ltd in partnership with Tahu FM ran a "broadcasting basics" course with 12 students from Te Pā o Rākaihautū this month. There are 3 x NZQA units that make up this Level 2 course. Course contents were developed to provide rangatahi with an insight in to the iwi radio experience.
This has been an enjoyable and successful week for both students and tutors and will hopefully be a pilot for more rangatahi broadcasting programmes. Tahu FM were able to provide the course with assistance from a Te Pūni Kōkiri rangatahi contract.
Students are featured in the visual photo together with Kim Adamson and Raniera Winikerei (Whitireia tutors).
There was a 100% pass rate from the Te Pā students for their NZQA Level 2 Unit Standards and 100% attendance rate throughout the whole course.
The course was a huge success for everyone involved and the tutors enjoyed their interaction with the group. This could easily become a great recruitment tool for iwi stations looking for staff.
The Tahu FM team enjoyed having the rangatahi from Te Pā in the building for the week.
