Noel Woods is the founder of Grove Roots, a group which was created in 2006. Based in Waiwhetū near Wellington, Grove Roots is more than a band, it's a community that works in all aspects of entertainment and event production.
Over the years the focus has been introducing singers and songwriters into Māori Music. Both the debut single 'Tau Hou Māori and 'Te Kura', the second track, have reached number one on the Te Reo Māori charts. According to Noel, much of the group's success needs to be credited to the singers Sianne Dougherty, Amba Holly and Ihaka Tukapua, musician Neha Gate and the production skills of Thomas Te Taite and Zane Graham (Sons of Zion).
As Executive Producer, Noel wants the group to continue to push boundaries experimenting, using 2-3 different genres/feels in the one song and using tāonga puoro regularly as they try to normalise te reo and make it cool to listen to for young and old.
Expect more music coming from the Grove Roots whānau whānui with an album release set for 2017.
