Job description

Kaitiaki Pūtea - ensures robust systems and processes; financial obligations are met on time; and the Board has accurate useful financial information.

Key Functions

Ngā Tikanga:

  • Help ensure that Tikanga is at the forefront of all that Te Māngai Pāho does
  • Maintain a robust accounting system; and, develop and maintain effective reporting processes
  • Prepare and ensure that all external reports comply with accounting standards and legislation
  • Exercise technical and professional responsibility for all financial and accounting operations to provide the Board and Management with effective financial advice

Mahi Tahi and Te Tauutuutu:

  • Assist managers in the development of budgets and prepare the financial statements for annual reports
  • Provide accurate monthly financial reports, including variance analysis on budget versus actual, for inclusion in the Board reports
  • Ensure that all payments to creditors and funded entities are properly authorised, accurately coded and on time
  • Ensure that Te Māngai Pāho is a supportive and collegial partner for both the content creation sector and the wider Māori language sector

Te Hiranga:

  • Manage the investment of revenue received to ensure that deposits are made within policy and to maximise interest on deposits
  • Prepare fortnightly salary payments and maintain accurate and up-to-date salary and leave records
  • Maintain financial records in an accurate, logical and accessible manner and alert the Tumu Whakahaere to any significant budget variances
  • Work with the Pou – Ratonga Rangatōpū to ensure that the Corporate Services team supports innovative Maori language outcomes


Knowledge  Comprehensive understanding of accountancy practices 

Skills  Confidence in te ao Māori and highly developed analytical and relationship management skills

Experience  An understanding of financial management in the Public-Sector
