The Crown's primary interest
in Māori radio is the role it can play in the regeneration
of the Māori language. It also has a major influence
in increasing the amount of popular music in Māori,
further heightening interests of rangatahi to learn Māori
Iwi radio stations were established in the period 1989-1994
with NZ on Air as the lead Crown Agency. Te Māngai
Pāho assumed responsibility for funding all stations
in 1995. Currently there are 21 Iwi radio stations
(Click on Iwi Radio Map button above for details).
Radio
Te Māngai Pāho has only one annual contestable funding
round for Radio Programmes. Submissions for the 2007/08
Māori Language Radio Programmes 'Request for Proposals'
closed on 9 February 2007.

Music
Te Māngai Pāho has only one annual contestable funding round for the production of Māori Music. Submissions for the 2007/08 Māori Music CD Production 'Request for Proposals' closed on 29 June 2007.
